January is finally over

The last three weeks have been a whirlwind of activity on multiple fronts. It surprised me how much time it had been since my last post.

One of the coolest (pun intended) things that has kept me busy was that over a couple of storms, we got over 12 inches of snow. I love snow. We usually only get good accumulation every 4 or 5 years, so it was a little surprising, but not fully unexpected, that this year would be a big snow year.

The bright side was that by chance, I was home for the snowfalls, so I was there to shovel. The downside is that this is our first winter owning a business in town. Since we don’t usually get much snow, we took the risk last fall and decided to clear snow ourselves and not contract with anyone. By the way, did I say that the only machines that we have to clear snow is a 24” snow blower and a big scoop shovel? Let’s just say that the kids made repeated investments in their college fund. The exercise was good for me too, so that’s a plus too.

In case you’re wondering, it takes a long time to clear a large parking lot with driveway-sized tools.

The second half of January was very busy with work. I was scheduled for two different 5 day training trips. I travelled on Sunday and worked on site Monday through Friday. I’m not sure why, but those trips are much more exhausting than the regular four day trips. The project that I’m working on is one of the more challenging jobs that I’ve had. I’m glad that I’m having this experience, but it is also somewhat exhausting.

Learning about Stocism and practicing meditation help me to stay calm and find the good in hard times.

That said, I’m glad that January is over and February is here.
